I love this idea. Where will the partners be meeting? At school? I wonder if it woudl be possible to visit them at home to better the attendance rate. Young kids cannot drive themselves and parents get busy or forget. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteYour action research plan looks very thought out. I am very interested to see the results of this action research project as I strongly believe that having a literacy partner should make a big impact. How often will the literacy partners be meeting? Will that make a difference in the success rate?
ReplyDeleteThis very interesting because I know how it feels at the beginning of the school year knowing that some struggling reading students haven't had any interaction with text since the end of the previous year. I like that you'll get feedback from the parents and students to make improvements for the next summer. This looks like a great program, and I look forward to seeing your results.
ReplyDeleteI forgot the *is after this...please excuse! ;)
ReplyDeleteHello Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your plan, I am not quite sure if literacy partners means: teachers partnering with other teachers, teachers partnering with students, teachers partnering with parents/volunteers, or your school partnering with a company like scholastic so students are able to buy books during the summer at cheaper prices? It might be in your plan and I am just not understanding. I really would like to understand because I think this is a great idea, specially for students who might need just a little bit of a push to reach their next grade level's expectations right before they get there. I think this is also important because I bet many students do not even pick up a book during the summer. So please clarify exactly what partners means, this sounds like a good idea and maybe something my district can use because our district has talked about providing any student in the district a place where they can go for about four hours or so during the summer and read or do other things, not only to keep kids off the streets but also to help the ones that need that extra push. This is a very good idea. I am excited to see how it will turn out! Please follow my blog as well. I would appreciate your feedback as also :)

I think this is a great plan. I also would like to know who you are partnering with. It sounds very interesting. We open one school library in our district during the summer so the kids can come read and take ARP tests. We do not get a very big turn out. I am looking forward to seeing how your plan works and your results. Godd luck! Please check out my action plan and comment :o)
ReplyDeleteAny type of program to assist students with their reading fluency and comprehension is a plus. Your plan appears well thought out and ready to go. Do you have any rewards in place for students who read the most books? Maybe implementing an incentive plan would provide some extrinsic motivation to encourage the intrinsic motivation (sometimes a challenge but can be done). What are the age groups? Do you teach elementary level or middle school? Best wishes.
